This session discusses the process required to ensure that the various elements of a project are properly coordinated. An overview of project plan development, project plan execution and change control is presented.

Project success or failure depends on the quality of the project scope and how clearly it is defined within the organizational context. Focus is on developing a high quality scope statement, cost/benefit analysis, project constraints and alternatives, project objectives, work breakdown structure, project master schedule, work authorization, scope reporting, control systems and project termination.

This is the discipline of directing and coordinating people throughout the life of the project. It uses administrative, behavioral and organizational knowledge to achieve project success. 9. Risk Management
Project managers recognize the process of project planning, scheduling and controlling. However, risk is more difficult to define and manage in the real world because of uncertainty and the vague use of contingency. Focus is on risk definition, identification, mitigation and deflection, as well as contingency planning.
10. Contracts and Procurement Management
Procurement is the process by which goods and services are acquired, usually by contract. Focus is on material source selection, pre-qualification of vendors, contract types, procurement documents, invitation to bid, bid responses and evaluation, contract risk assessment, contract negotiation, contract award and conflict resolution.

Who should learn PM knowledge and who should get PMP CERTIFICATE?
As a teacher of the PMP training class, I was asked the same question over again and again in the past 4 years teaching, “Do I need to get the PMP certificate?”. Honestly, everyone should learn PM knowledge, but does not need to get certified. Since project is everywhere, and most time in our lives, we are dealing with projects. So better understanding and applying project management knowledge and skills can really improve the quality of our daily life and work. Thus everyone should learn PM knowledge. However, only the person who wants to grow and achieve their career goal, s/he should get certificated. The PMP certificate has no industry limitation, and it is accepted by most common industries, such as IT, construction, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, telecommunication, financial service and transportation. If you want to step up to any management position, like senior manager, functional manager, project manager, IT architect; or high level technical position, like senior engineer, senior developer, supervisors and so on; or business owner, independent consultant, I would sincerely recommend you to get the PMP credential.
I would like to give some more detail reasons by answering the following questions.
Why does a company need project management and a PMP?
The project management is the key factor to improve the project quality, to increase the success rate of the project, and to strengthen the business financial data. The PMP is the person who can demonstrate the ability and capability to perform project management better. Project manager is the person who manages the real project, so the PMP credential is a minimum requirement for a project manager.
What is the demand for the PMP credential?
Because project management ability and capability are the key factor for a project success, so any one who is PMP will benefit to the project. The more PMP in a project, the more success the project will be.

What are differences between MBA and PMP?
MBA is a degree, PMP is a professional credential. A MBA is educated to have the ability and capability to make decisions based on the financial data and management skills. A PMP must have the knowledge and experience of how to successfully manage a project. A project manager can be MBA or PMP or both.
What are benefits of getting the PMP credential?
In order to get PMP, you have to better understand the project management knowledge. So that means, you have to have the project management skills and knowledge to solve problems of all aspects of the project, such as scope, cost, time, quality, human resource, communication, risk, procurement and integration. This will help you to improve the quality of your daily work and project, also increase the chance to get promotion and salary rise.
I am a new landed immigrant; can I get a job if I get PMP?
Not guaranteed. It depends on your personality, personal strength and luck.
If you have no any real project management experiences before you come to North America, or no any real North America project experiences, I would like to suggest you to learn some specific skills to get the job first, after 2 or 3 years, you can get the PMP credential to advance your career path. But it is your personal decision.
If I get PMP, will I get promotion or salary rise immediately?
Good question. In most cases, you won’t see the result right away. But if you really utilize the PM knowledge and skills into your daily work and demonstrate you are a qualified PMP, then I will guarantee that you will get what you should get or what you expect to get..
How can I get promoted or salary rise after I get PMP?
It is totally personal preferences. If you can let your boss to know about you get certified, it is the best first step. Second to tell your boss you want to be a project manager and require more project management responsibility if you can. Third, just changing job!
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO GET PMP?
Now is the best time. Up to June 2009, the PMI will change the exam questions and test exam format. It will definitely increase the difficulty of passing the exam. So right now, you still have the chance to learn the existing exam strategies and pass the exam relatively easily.
